This comprehensive plan outlines new actions for implementation as well as maintaining and enhancing existing efforts to prevent the introduction of new AIS, prevent the dispersal of AIS, detect and respond to new invaders, and minimize the harmful effects of AIS in Michigan waters.
The guidelines are intended to provide water gardeners with consistent invasive-species-prevention recommendations. Accordingly, water gardeners, water gardening societies, retailers, and outreach professionals who work with water gardeners are encouraged to use this information to guide their own activities and when developing outreach tools.
These guidelines support the bi-national Habitattitude education campaign, which promotes ethical and humane treatment of organisms and alternatives for preventing the release of organisms into the environment through reuse and resale of live organisms, and proper disposal.
The Great Lakes Phragmites Collaborative (GLPC) is a regional partnership established to improve communication and collaboration and lead to more coordinated, efficient, and strategic approaches to non-native Phragmites management, restoration, and research across the Great Lakes basin in both the United States and Canada.
To guide the continuing efforts of the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI), federal agencies have drafted GLRI Action Plan II, which summarizes the actions that federal agencies plan to implement during FY15-19 using Great Lakes Restoration Initiative funding. GLRI Action Plan II outlines the next phase of work on Great Lakes environmental problems and associated human health issues many of which will take decades to resolve.
The GLRI Phragmites Decision Support Tool (DST) Mapper is intended to provide resource managers with information to strategically develop effective Phragmites control and invasion prevention programs in the Great Lakes coastal zone (10 km inland from the shoreline). The Mapper consists of three integrated components: A distribution map of large (> 0.2 ha) stands of existing Phragmites. A map of estimated Phragmites habitat suitability based on current environmental conditions.
