Since the 2002 Water Policy was signed into law, Québec has invested millions of dollars into regional planning and local implementation activities that aim to protect sources of drinking water.

The 2002 policy mandates that both technical assistance and dedicated funding be made available for watershed organizations to fulfill their requirements. Now that these organizations have been successfully established, the Ministry of Environment and the Fight Against Climate Change has proposed an investment of 550 million Canadian dollars to implement the first action plan for 2018-2023.
