PA VinES (Pennsylvania Vested in Environmental Sustainability) is a voluntary program that promotes self-assessment of on-farm operations in Erie County’s vineyards and provides a pathway for grape growers to access state funding that can offset the cost of installing agricultural conservation practices.
Growers assess nutrient and sediment run-off and then can obtain funding through PaVinES to implement conservation practices that reduce nutrient and sediment erosion into waterways.
The PaVinEs program has distributed over $400,000 to grape growers to install conservation practices including nearly 500 acres of cover crops and over 800 feet of stream buffers.
