The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (Ohio EPA) will investigate opportunities to utilize stormwater management to address hydrologic factors that influence nutrient loading into Lake Erie.

In Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems (MS4s), stormwater runoff (including the nutrients and pollutants it picks up along the way) is discharged directly to receiving waters, not going through any type of treatment. Best management practices like green infrastructure or street sweeping can reduce nutrient loading from MS4 discharges.
