Monitoring by the U. S. Geological Survey (USGS) is underway in New York’s Lake Erie watershed.  The monitoring will be complete by January 2020.

USGS is using the tributary monitoring data to develop Soil & Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) models to estimate nutrient loadings into New York’s portion of Lake Erie. Model development is underway and estimated for completion in 2021. The models will support the development of New York’s Lake Erie Nine-Element Watershed Management Plan.
