The City of Milwaukee Water Works Department Water Quality Monitoring Program exceeds state and federal requirements – both by testing source water and treated water and by voluntarily testing for an expanded contaminant list.

  • In addition to an annual Consumer Confidence Report (which is required), Milwaukee also publishes source water, treated water, and distribution system monitoring data for about 500 contaminants, including Cryptosporidium, perfluorinated compounds, and pharmaceuticals.
  • By publishing monitoring data from multiple points in the system, information on source water quality can be distinguished from water quality within the city’s infrastructure (everything beyond the point of intake).
